Dubai International airport is one of the most important aviation hubs in the Middle East. It is situated in the Al Garhoud district, about 4 km southeast of Dubai. It weekly operates more than six thousand flights operated by 130 airlines to more than 200 destinations all over the world.
In 2009, Dubai International Airport was the 15th busiest airport in the world and it is at present the 7th busiest cargo airport worldwide.
The airport was built in 1959 under the order issued by the Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum and it was officially opened a year later. In the following years, new buildings and facilities were added to keep up with its increasing needs.
