The World Islands is another unique and pioneering property development project by the world-renowned property developer Nakheel. The amazing scale and scope of this project offers an ambitious vision for the Dubai real estate market as a whole. This high end, exclusive VIP luxury development features 300 manmade islands, located off the coast of Dubai and right near The Palm Jumeirah, another one of Nakheel’s projects. To form the foundations where the apartments and villas of World Islands will be based required 385 million tons of rock along 382 kilometers of coastline. The project also features 27 kilometers of breakwater to protect the properties and offers boat access to and from Dubai and mooring facilities for its residents.
Although luxury property is widely available in Dubai, The World Islands, which is another one of property developer Nakheel’s ambitious projects, is in a class all of its own. The World Islands consists of 300 islands of different sizes available to property investors for freehold purchase who can afford the very high price tags these properties come with. Most of the islands have been sold including Thailand, Ireland and England, but a few are still available for several million dollars each. This price is for the island only and does not include any property construction, which is the responsibility of the investor or buyer. However, even at this high price, the idea of owning one’s own island does appeal to many of the wealthy, and the project has garnered a lot of attention and interest among investors.
There have been several high profile and celebrity investors for The World Island Dubai including actress Angelina Jolie and Richard Branson, chairman of Virgin. However most of the freehold properties are expected to be hotels, tourist attractions and possibly even some timeshares. Several resorts have already been announced which will be accessible only by boat or seaplane. Many other tourist attractions are also expected from some of the investment groups who have purchased islands, but there will also no doubt be residential island properties as well. The World Islands, another Dubai freehold development, will undoubtedly bring even more attention and notoriety to the Emirate of the U.A.E., already well known for other property developments such as the Palm Jebel Ali, the Palm Jumeirah and the Burj Dubai. All of these unique properties have situated Dubai as the global hot spot for property investors.
